One of the biggest questions I get before a family session is: “What should we wear?”
I get it, coordinating outfits for everyone can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! With a little guidance, choosing what to wear can actually be fun (and stress-free) and you ALWAYS have me to help!
Here are my favorite tips for pulling together family outfits that look amazing on camera:
Instead of matching everyone in the same color, choose 2–3 colors that go well together and build from there. Think soft neutrals with a pop of color, or warm earthy tones that flow together or beautiful, rich jewel tones that make you stand out. This creates harmony in your photos without looking too “matchy-matchy.”
Textures like knits, lace, linen, silk or denim photograph beautifully and add depth. Layers (like cardigans, scarves, vests, leather jackets, hats, etc) not only look great but also give you options to switch things up mid-session.
Flowy dresses and skirts bring gorgeous motion into your photos, and kids look adorable in clothes they can comfortably play in. If you’re tugging, adjusting, or uncomfortable, it’ll show in photographs so pick outfits that let everyone relax and be themselves.
Bold stripes, neon colors, and logos can take attention away from what really matters—you! Stick with softer tones, subtle patterns, and timeless styles that will look beautiful for years to come.
Gone are the days of everyone in blue jeans and white shirts. Instead, coordinate outfits so they complement each other. For example: Mom in a flowy cream dress, Dad in a soft olive shirt and khakis, kids in muted earth tones. It all blends without being identical.
